Why Sand Quality Matters?
Casting defects are often caused by inconsistencies in sand or metal. The Sakthi Smart Lab addresses the issue of poor sand quality by conducting real-time testing throughout the mixing process. How the Sakthi Smart Lab Works

Ensuring Consistent Sand Properties: The Sakthi Smart Lab is designed to achieve a homogeneous sand mixture in every batch. It continuously monitors and adjusts key parameters, ensuring that the properties of the sand stay within the required specifications.

Real-Time Sand Testing: As the sand is mixed, the Sakthi Smart Lab performs online tests to evaluate important properties like compatibility (how well the sand will compact) and compression strength. These parameters are measured against preset targets to ensure the sand is fit for casting.

Automated Adjustments Using PLC Control: At the start of the mixing process, the system automatically adds a calculated amount of water to the sand. After a brief mixing period, a pneumatic cylinder collects a sand sample. The sample is aerated for consistency and moved to the testing zone, where it undergoes rigorous evaluation.
Precise Compatibility Testing: A specialized pneumatic cylinder equipped with a linear sensor measures the sand’s compatibility. If the results deviate from the target values, the system accurately recalculates and adjusts the water content. A second sample is tested to verify the adjustments.

Compression Strength Testing: Once the desired compatibility is reached, the sand is subjected to a compression strength test. This ensures the sand is robust enough to withstand the casting process without breaking down prematurely.

Refining the Process: If target values are not achieved after the second sample, the system will take a third sample. Up to three sampling cycles are conducted to ensure that the sand reaches the correct properties before being discharged from the mixer.

Comprehensive Data Logging: All test results, including compatibility and compression strength values, are recorded and displayed on a user-friendly HMI (Human-Machine Interface). This allows operators to closely monitor the sand quality and make informed decisions in real time.
